From Foster Youth to Founder of Creation Nation

Karen Nation, a business owner, Shark Tank contestant, and former foster youth used her platform to collaborate with Foster Love - Together We Rise to give back to kids presently in the system. When speaking on her experience in the foster care system, Karen specifically noted her memories of not having packed a lunch to take to school and the negative feelings around standing in the lunch-line with her punch card to collect her meals.
Knowing how challenging school dynamics can be for foster youth, Karen used the sales of her no-bake protein bar mix to inspire and give back-to-school supplies to youth in foster care. Through giving back 10% of all sales from her business from June 28th-August 18th, 2021, Karen has made a marked difference in the lives of foster youth.
Creation Nation
Karen’s business, Creation Nation, also has origins rooted in her time in the foster care space. She recalls how one foster mom taught her to cook and how special those memories are. The inspiration behind her no-bake protein bar comes from her interest in cooking, food allergies, and experience in foster care.
Karen recognizes the importance of having food that is accommodating to all and her mixes are doing just that. With a variety of flavors to choose from, customers simply pick their favorite and mix with a suggested liquid add-in.
In 2021, Karen took her business to the next level by appearing on ABC’s Shark Tank. Karen’s product is now in grocery stores nationwide and available for purchase on the web. You can learn more about her mixes here.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, we are proud to collaborate with Karen and know that her story will inspire the next generation. Karen is moving the needle on allergy-friendly foods and breaking statistics around higher education. Currently, only 3% of foster youth will graduate from college. Karen is an example of how access to education and matriculation can create infinite opportunities.
