For many people, Mother’s Day is a special day to celebrate the important women in their lives. There are many foster moms who go above and beyond to provide love and support for every child in their foster home. If you know a foster mom, one of the best things you can do this Mother’s Day is to show them an expression of appreciation. Whether it’s Mother’s Day or any other day of the year, taking the time to recognize and say thank you to a foster mom is important. She’s likely doing a lot for their family, and even small tokens of appreciation can mean a lot!

On this Mother’s Day, let us remember all of the foster moms who make a difference in the lives of children every day. Check out these four ideas for ways to show your appreciation to foster moms!

1. Send a Happy Mother’s Day Message

A simple gesture like sending a Happy Mother’s Day message through a text or with a mother’s day card can mean a lot to a foster mom. She may read it as “You’re doing a great job. Thank you for sharing your love.” Some women may face challenges during their experience as a foster mom. That Mother’s Day message could be the thing that brightens their day a little more!

2. Give Flowers

The most iconic way of showing appreciation on Mother’s Day is by giving flowers. But some foster families may feel apprehensive about celebrating mother’s day. A child in foster care can experience emotional pressure during this holiday. Foster parents could use this occasion to make an emotional connection with their child. If they are open to the idea, include them in the flower picking and offer the option of buying flowers for each mother figure in their life.

3. Mother’s Day Gifts

Show your appreciation with a special mother’s day gift. Get her a special coffee mug or stylish t-shirt from the Foster Love Shop. Knowing that 100% of the proceeds from the Foster Love Shop go towards helping another child in foster care can bring a smile to that foster mom. What if she doesn’t want gifts? Consider making a donation in her name! It’s a great way to show appreciation to that foster mom and help make a difference.

4. Celebrate Together

Consider planning a small Mother’s Day event with a group of mom friends and celebrate together. Include your foster mom friend by suggesting a Mother’s Day event together so she feels included too! Go out to brunch to celebrate Mother’s Day or go for a walk in the park together. New foster moms may feel too nervous to bring the idea up first and maybe questioning if they’re allowed to celebrate (they totally are!). Take the pressure off by suggesting and planning to spend Mother’s Day together!
