Foster Families Attend Country Explosion Music Festival

This weekend TWR team members and several lucky foster families joined masses of other country music fans for the Country Explosion Music Festival in Tooele, Utah. The three-day event included performances by the likes of Scotty McCreery, The Band Perry, Kellie Pickler, and LeAnn Rimes. TWR team members also had plans to give out duffle bags for foster care.

While everyone had fun, for the 40 members of foster families in attendance the concert was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The kids also received new TWR swag and Sweet Cases; one little girl gave everyone big hugs, slung her new Sweet Case over her shoulder and refused to let go of it all day. “We don’t get to do these things often,” said one mother of 11 foster kids. This experience wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our social media intern, Josh Wilson.

Opportunities like this highlight how important projects like Sweet Cases are for foster youth. On average, 500,000 children in foster care will go through 3 different placements in their lives. They often have to use trash bags to carry their meager belongings, but we’re replacing trash bags with Sweet Cases. Sweet Cases include a duffle bag, stuffed animal, blanket, coloring books, crayons, and a hygiene kit. Not only do these cases provide a practical purpose, but they also give children a sense of ownership and responsibility that translates into higher self-esteem. This year we’re aiming to deliver 1000 Sweet Cases this year all over the country! We truly appreciate all the help we receive from our dedicated sponsors and volunteers.
